Sclerotherapy – Spider Veins
Sclerotherapy is a painless way of removing unsightly varicose or spider veins in the legs and lower body that often appear after pregnancy or with age. Treatment is relatively painless, and requires little to no downtime. Sclerotherapy is an excellent choice to fade spider veins on the legs that do not itch or appear bumpy or knotted.
The number of treatments varies depending on the severity of disease. This procedure treats malformed blood vessels by injecting a solution into the varicose or spider veins which causes the veins to collapse, redirecting the blood into healthier veins. Sclerotherapy may also help improve night cramps, swelling, burning or aching.
Once you are approved for Sclerotherapy, this procedure is performed in our office. No anesthesia is necessary and the whole procedure typically takes less than one hour. The area to be treated is properly sterilized and a fine needle is slowly inserted to the vein. The veins then collapse and will disappear over time.
Once the procedure is complete, compression and slight massage is administered to the area to relieve swelling and to prevent pain from occurring. Compression socks or stockings, and a compression pad may be used to keep the blood out of the treated vein. Most people will return to normal activities the same day.
